Fall in DC

Ask 100 people and most likely fall will be the favorite season for at least 70 of them. In DC fall (literally) is a breath of fresh air after months and months of high humidity heat. 

Early fall means plenty of sunshine, full trees slowly starting to turn, long jeans but maybe even still sandals, light jackets, long sleeves and the first cups of warm tea. It’s the time to go apple picking and then go crazy over apple crumbles, apple pies, warm apple cider, apple sauce and cinnamon sticks. 

The oven is starting to get heated up after a long summer break and out come corn breads, fig cheese bakes, cookies, spiced granolas, roasted pumpkin, crunchy kale and oatmeal bakes. Seriously. Who doesn’t like fall! 

Butternut Squash Ginger Soup

Butternut squash, sweet potato, ginger, tahini and vegetable broth. It couldn’t be easier to get a flavorful warming and filling soup!

It’s my favorite thing to do when it’s cold out and I don’t feel like bracing the cold. Get a cup of soup going, grab a good book and take both back to bed. Cuddle the pup, be cosy and warm up from the inside. 

Radicchio Pear Fall Salad

 

Yasss, gorgeous fall colors in a bowl! And who says that salads are just for summer?

This fall salad combines sweet ripe pear with rich walnuts, tart pomegranate and bitter radicchio. All held together by a lemon vinaigrette. 

Kale Smoothie

2 stems kale
1 1/2 frozen banana
1/4 cup frozen pineapple
1 tsp matcha
1/2 tsp spirulina
1 tbsp flax meal
1 tbsp coconut oil
almond milk

Blend everything together until thick and top with homemade cocoa granola and cocoa nibs! 

GF Pumpkin Chocolate Pop Tarts

Anybody who lives in DC knows about Ted’s Bulletin’s pop tarts. Last weekend a friend from Memphis was in town and a group of us went out for dinner together. After dinner, some headed straight to Ted’s for dessert to get some pop tarts.

What I like about pop tarts is that there are endless possibilities of flavor combinations! And since it’s fall, it’s only fair to turn this into a pumpkin classic!

Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk

For over a year now I have gotten into the habit of making myself some golden milk before going to bed. It’s my evening routing no matter how early or late I go to bed. Whether I’ve been out with friends or staying in working on the blog (or doing nothing). Whether it’s winter in Europe or whether it’s hot and humid in Saigon. 

It’s time to give this staple a little fall makeover!
